Welcome to the first annual District 27j Athletic League Middle School Volleyball Tournament, hosted by Rodger Quist Middle School! We are excited to be ending this season on a high by hosting this  event. We hope this letter will provide all the necessary information to make this event seamless  and fun for all schools involved. 

Schools Involved: Rodger Quist Middle School, Bromley East Charter School, Vikan Middle School, Stuart Middle School, Overland Trail Middle School, Discovery Magnet School, and  Prairie View Middle School.  

Schedule

The A-team tournament occurs on Tuesday, October 7th, and Thursday, October 9th. 

The B-team tournament occurs on Wednesday, October 8th, and Friday, October 10th. 

 

Tuesday, October 7th and Wednesday, October 8th:

Doors open for visiting teams at 4:00 P.M. 

Doors open for fans at 4:50 P.M. 

Concession Stands open at 5:00 P.M.

Games to be played at scheduled time 

Teams wait/stretch in cafeteria until gyms are cleared

Thursday, October 9th and Friday, October 10th

Awards

The District 27J Athletic League Volleyball Trophy will be onsite during the tournament.  There is no trophy for second or third place. The trophy will be handed out on the final day of  the tournament to the winning team. The trophy will remain at the school of the winning team  until the following season’s tournament commences. 

Locker Rooms

Teams are encouraged to arrive changed out and ready to play as locker rooms will not be open during this tournament. Athletes are welcome to use the restrooms located by the auxiliary gym. 

Gym/Bench Assignment

Teams will have at least 10 minutes to warm up in their respective gym before their game, as per CHSAA rules. The “home” team, or higher seed, will warm up on the north side of the gym and will sit on the south bench. The “away” team or lower seed, will warm up on the south side of the gym and will sit on the north bench. Teams that are not competing will be given space in the cafeteria to stretch, sit, and lightly warm-up as they wait.  

Medical Information

Medical personnel will not be on site. There is an AED accessible  in the main office, which is next to the large gymnasium, and medical bags will be kept on each bench. There is an emergency response plan that will be activated in a medical emergency.  

Film/Video

Participating teams are welcome to film their games from their sidelines. The RQMS Social Media team and Yearbook Committee will be on site to take pictures and videos.  

Admission

This is a free event. Concessions will be open for optional purchases. Parents who arrive early are encouraged to wait in the cafeteria until their child is playing due to limited seating in the small and main gyms. 

Visitor Parking

Parking will be available in three locations: in the front, south-facing entrance of the school,  across Yosemite Street to the east, and on the northwest side of the building next to the football field. From 4:30-5:00, an administrator will be outside to assist with parking and traffic control. For further information regarding brackets and parking please use the link below:
